Leading Hospital Trust Strengthens Access Control with PAC

One of the largest and busiest acute hospital trusts in the UK has taken a significant step towards enhancing security by upgrading its access control system with PAC.

Having been a PAC user for many years, the hospital has utilised its set version of Mifare Desfire as contactless credentials for newly installed PAC readers, each designed to work in the most demanding of operating environments.

The system integrates seamlessly with Access Central as its main server-client base, featuring advanced PAC access control technology, inclusive of IP controllers and access doors.

The complete solution reinforces the hospital’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment for patients, visitors, and the countless doctors and consultants who visit from across the globe.

Highlighting the influence of PAC, the Estates & Facilities team commented: “Access control serves as a formidable shield against potential risks, safeguarding the sanctity of patient privacy, the integrity of medical records, and the smooth functioning of our vital healthcare operations.

“We have worked in partnership with PAC for many years and trust them implicitly to offer the best advice to reinforce our commitment to delivering exceptional care while maintaining the highest standards of security and confidentiality. When they highlighted the opportunity to use our Mifare Desire with new readers, we implemented it to streamline operations for a more efficient and secure healthcare environment.”

In total PAC has installed 500 access and alarm servers, operating with specialist 512 DC controllers to support the large-scale access control system. In total, over 1500 doors are operating, with authorised access controlled via Mifare, mixed with high-security credentials.

The use of advanced PAC technology enables quick and convenient access for authorised personnel, minimising disruptions and streamlining workflow. The system’s comprehensive reporting and audit trail functionalities provide valuable insights into access activity, supporting compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitating incident investigations if necessary.

Jason Sullivan, PAC/GDX Strategy Development Manager added: “Recognising the importance of robust access control in healthcare settings, the hospital has chosen to use its set version of Mifare Desfire which PAC readers can support.

“The system fulfils the requirements for fast and highly secure data transmission, flexible memory organisation and is interoperable with existing contactless infrastructures. It combines to highlight its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure hospital environment, contributing to ongoing efforts to protect patient privacy, secure valuable assets, and mitigate potential security risks.”
