Comelit-PAC Helps Reframe Security at Former Kodak Site.
Comelit-PAC has worked with EVI Group and Barratt London to deliver a tailored door entry and access control system for Harrow Block J, a new residential development forming part of the wider Harrow View East regeneration project.
Located on the former Kodak factory site, Harrow Block J comprises 211 apartments across three residential buildings. The development forms part of Harrow Council’s plans to deliver more than 2,000 new homes and create a new neighbourhood.
Security was a key consideration throughout the project, with Secure by Design principles incorporated into the specification to support resident safety and meet the requirements of the scheme.
The project was originally specified with app-based access, reflecting growing demand for mobile-based technology. During construction, the access control specification was reviewed in line with Secure by Design guidance, resulting in the inclusion of dedicated in-apartment video monitors. The revised solution provides residents with a secure and reliable means of managing visitor access while meeting compliance requirements.
Comelit-PAC supported the project from the specification stage, working closely with Barratt London and EVI Group to ensure the revised system could be incorporated into the development.
EVI Group delivered the installation, which included 311 Mini Handsfree Monitors (6722W) and nine VK4599/08 stainless steel flush video entrance panels with integrated proximity readers and lift control across the three residential buildings.
“The change in specification was significant, but absolutely necessary,” said Marc Nachmias, Managing Director at EVI Group. “We originally selected Comelit-PAC for its app-based capability, but once Secure by Design principles were prioritised, it was clear the system needed to evolve. By working closely in partnership at the early stages of specification, we were able to make that change quickly and effectively.”
Comelit-PAC remained involved throughout the project, providing technical support to ensure the revised specification met the design, operational and compliance requirements of the development.
“From the initial design, our role was to ensure the solution would meet the technical, design and compliance requirements of the development,” said Jeremy King, National Specification Manager at Comelit-PAC. “As the project progressed, we worked together with Barratt London and EVI Group to adapt the system to include in-apartment monitors, without compromising usability, aesthetics, integration or long-term value.”
